The writer and the speaker have a debate on labyrinths in northeast of Russia. The writer provides three purposes, which are opposed by the following lecture.

First, the writer claims that because of because of high sea level, labyrinths can be used to trap fish. While the speaker views this issue from an opposite angle, according to him/her, this labyrinth is near the sea, but others are located far away from the sea.

Secondly, the passage states that Labyrinths are used to record astronomical phenomenon. However, the speaker casts doubt on this opinion by saying that If the entrances of labyrinths are used for record, they should have fixed direction. But actually, labyrinths do not related to certain stars.

Last, the writer argues that Labyrinths were used to hold rituals for dead. By contrast, in accordance with the speaker, this claim does not hold water. No human remains, like bones, tools, are found nearby.

The reading and listening material have a conflict of opinions about people that missing on the ship. The writer provides three theories, which are contradicted by the following lecture.

Firstly, the passage claims that they were captured by pirates. However, the listening refutes this claim by saying that what's the main purpose of pirate is to demand money; however, they did not ask for money. In addition the valuable things were all on the ship.

Secondly, the reading proposes that the ship transported flammable liquid. Yet, the speaker disagrees with this proposal. If the ship leaked, the liquid would produce a strong smell,which lingered a long time.

Finally, the author suggests that the ship was sinking. By contrast, the professor thinks the reading’s claim does not hold water. The ship was floating a few days and the crew were experienced. They knew that staying on the ship is safer.
