Business Preliminary Reading and Writing paper
FORMATThe Reading test consists of a range of business-related texts and
accompanying tasks. A text may consist of several short ieces.
The Writing test consists of two business-related writing tasks in
response to stimuli provided and for a given purpose and target reader.
TIMING1 hour and 30 minutes.
PARTSSeven in the Reading the Writing test.
QUESTIONS45 questions in the Reading test. Two tasks in the Writing test.
TASK TYPESMultiple choice, matching, multiple-choice cloze,/note completion.
TEXT TYPESFrom the following: notices, messages, adverts, lealets, contents
pages,graphs, charts, tables, business letters, product descriptions,
reports,minutes, newspaper or magazine articles, memos.
LENGTH OF TEXTSReading: 150–400 words per text. Approximately 600–900 words overall.
Writing: two compulsory writing tasks of 90–120 words
in total for the paper.
ANSWER FORMATReading: candidates indicate answers by shading a box or writing
a word ona machine-readable answer sheet.
Writing: candidates write their answers in the boxes on the
answer sheet provided.
MARkSReading: Questions 1–45 carry one mark.
WRITINGPart 1 carries one third of the marks for this test.
Part 2 carries two thirds of the marks for this test.

FORMATThe paper consists of four part Each part comprises a recorde or texts
and a Listening task.
TIMING40 minutes, including time for the transfer of answers to the answer sheet.

communication. In the second task candidates are required
