The fifth day of may is the traditional Chinese festival of Dragon BoatFestival. The Dragon Boat Festival is also known as the fifth,May Day,theafternoon festival,the dragon festival,the poet's day,the festival of thefestival,the children's day and the loran festival.

The main customs of the Dragon Boat Festival are: eating zongzi,racingdragon boat RACES,daughters returning to the home,bat,hitting,swinging andeating salted eggs.

The origin of the Dragon Boat Festival is to memorate the great patrioticpoet: qu yuan.

When making zongzi,they can have different shapes such as triangles,circles,squares and rectangles. They are salty,sweet and peanut.

Thisfestival is to memorate the death of QU Yuan,an upright and honest poet andstatesman who is said to have mitted suicide by drowning himself in a river.

The most important activity of this festival is the Dragon Boat races. Itsymbolizes people's attempts to rescue Qu Yuan. In the current period,theseraces also demonstrate the virtues of cooperation and teamwork.

Besides,the festival has also been marked by eating zong zi (glutinousrice). Zong zi is made of glutinous rice stuffed with different fillings andwrapped in bamboo or reed leaves. People who mourned the death of Qu threw Zongzi into the river to feed his ghost every year.
