终身受益的话

一位少年去拜访一位年长的智者。他问智者：“我如何才能成为一个自己愉快，同时也能给别人带去愉快的人呢?”智者看着他说：“孩子，在你这个年龄有这样的愿望，已经很难得了。我送你四句话。第一句话是，把自己当成别人。你能说说这句话的含义吗?”

少年回答说：“是不是说，在我感到痛苦忧伤的时候，就把自己当成别人，这样痛苦就自然减轻了;当我欣喜若狂之际时，把自己当成别人，那些狂喜也会变得平和中正一些吧?”

智者微微点头，接着说：“第二句话，把别人当成自己。”少年沉思一会儿，说：“这样就可以真正同情别人的不幸，理解别人的需求，在别人需要的时候给予恰当的帮助?”

智者两眼发光，继续说道：“第三句话，把别人当成别人。”少年说：“这句话的意思是不是说，要充分地尊重每个人的独立性，在任何情况下都不可侵犯他人的核心领地?”

智者哈哈大笑说：“很好，很好。孺子可教也!第四句话是，把自己当成自己。这句话理解起来太难了，留着你以后慢慢品味吧。”少年说：“这四句话之间有太多自相矛盾之处，我用什么才能把它们统一起来呢?”智者说：“很简单，用一生的时间和经历。”少年沉默了很久，然后叩首告别。

后来少年变成了壮年人，又变成了老人。再后来他离开这个世界很久以后，人们都还时时提到他的名字。人们都说他是一位智者，因为他是一个愉快的人，而且也给每一个见到过他的人带来了愉快

我自小就是哥哥的“跟屁虫”。哥哥每次考试拿了第一，而我就像自己拿了第一那样高兴。见人就说：“我哥哥可厉害了，考试总是第一。”那种喜悦是没有人能够体会的。一次父亲对我说：“又不是你考试得第一，你高兴什么!记住，不要拿别人的东西来炫耀自己!”于是我记住了第一句关于“炫耀”的话——不要拿别人的东西来炫耀自己!

以后凭着自己的聪明和勤奋考试也总拿第一，我也就暗暗高兴了。我觉得一切在我眼中都变得渺小了。同学问我问题，我也爱理不理，还撇撇嘴说：“这么简单的题都不会，你真笨，你看我!”正在我得意洋洋的时候，父亲又说话了：“你可以自信，但不可以自傲，记住，不要总是炫耀自己!”于是我记住了第二句关于“炫耀”的话——不要总是炫耀自己。

进入大学后，在学校组织的象棋比赛中得了奖，拿回家来一个奖杯。小侄儿看见了，就拿去玩。他拿着奖杯和他的小伙伴“吹牛”，说他的叔叔怎样怎样棒，他的朋友马上对他“奉若神明”。父亲看见了，对我说：“你不要让他拿着你的东西，这样只会惯坏他。记住，不要让别人拿着你的东西炫耀!”于是我记住了第三句关于“炫耀”的话——不要让别人拿着你的东西炫耀!

父亲说的只是简短的三句话：却让我终身受益。
