OUR HERITAGE
Dulwich College is one of the UK's oldest independent schools, founded in South London as a boys’ school in 1619. Dulwich College International (DCI) was established to bring the Dulwich education to students around the world and is now one of the fastest growing UK independent school networks. Through DCI, Dulwich College has been in Asia for ten years, building bridges between Eastern and Western communities, delivering high academic results and a well-rounded education.
Dulwich College Beijing was the second College to join the Dulwich family of schools. The Dulwich network now provides for over 7,200 students in seven cities and four countries, with Colleges in London, Shanghai, Beijing, Suzhou, Seoul, and Singapore, and International High Schools in Suzhou and Zhuhai. The newest College will open in Minhang, Shanghai in August 2016.
The close collaboration between our Colleges stimulates innovation and encourages an international outlook, which we believe provides students an advantage in the futures they will face. The result is an extended community where academic ability is nourished, creativity is valued, diversity is celebrated and inspiration is paramount.
Dulwich College Beijing is made up of over 1450 students from age 1 to age 18, with over forty-five different nationalities represented in our diverse student body.

FROM OUR HEADMASTER
It is my privilege to become Headmaster of this wonderful school in August 2016, having previously been the Head of Senior School for four years. My wife, three sons, and I arrived in Beijing from the UK in 2012 and immediately discovered just what a welcoming and caring environment Dulwich College Beijing is. We hope that you will feel the same way if you visit or join us. DCB’s close community is incredibly supportive and includes not only staff and students but parents, friends, and alumni. There is a sense of excitement about working in Beijing at such a dynamic international school, with its close links to Dulwich College London and the other Dulwich International Colleges.
Our students come from over 40 nationalities and enjoy the best pastoral care imaginable, whether in Early Years, Junior School, or Senior School. The focus on the individual gives the College a family feel and reinforces the message from the Dulwich International group that ‘students come first’. Our graduates often mention, when asked what makes the school special, the rapport with teachers, the family atmosphere and the support received throughout their time with us. Perhaps this is what leads to some of the finest IGCSE and IB results in Asia and the extraordinary number of students leaving to join Ivy League, Russell Group, and other prestigious universities around the world. More important than headline figures, however, remains the emphasis on stretching each individual to reach his or her potential and to take responsibility from a young age.
Our teachers are our greatest asset and they always ‘go the extra mile’ to ensure our students are happy, challenged and fulfilled, not only in the classroom but also on the stage, the sports field, the debating arena, and in all manner of enrichment and leadership activities. I have never seen a more collaborative environment, which begins with the child initiated learning of Early Years, continues with the creative curriculum of the Junior School, and finishes with the rigorous and fulfilling journey through the Senior School. This special environment is one of peer support and leads to the most extraordinary outcomes.
One of our four ‘pillars’, alongside academic achievement, sporting endeavour and excellence in the performing arts, is that of service to others. We ensure that our students, from the youngest age, use the opportunities they have at Dulwich to give something back and to care for others. Whether it is building houses in Cambodia, working with local Chinese orphanages, creating art in the community, or simply helping new students to settle in, these experiences are valued and nurtured. Our students learn to care for those less fortunate than themselves during their time at Dulwich. The Latin motto of the College is 'Detur Pons Mundo' which means 'Building a Bridge to the World.' We hope that our students will become philanthropic leaders of the future, whatever career they pursue, and that they will build bridges to other cultures.
Finally, we hope to instil resilience and confidence in our students, through acquiring the skills to deal with setbacks. This is crucial for their future, with its rapid changes and demands. We genuinely want our students to seize the possibilities of tomorrow through the delivery of an excellent all-round, international education.
Please feel free to browse our website to find out more about all our programmes. I look forward to welcoming you and your child to Dulwich College Beijing for a visit. You'll quickly get a sense of just how special a place this is.
