中学生演讲比赛演讲稿
Honorable judges, ladies and gentlemen:
It’s my great pleasure here to present my topic Friendship on this very occasion.
Ladies and gentlemen, Upon talking about friendship between Canada and China, the first person come to our mind is Dr. Henry Bethune who sacrificed himself during his divine journey to China with a mission of saving the dying and lifting the wounded Chinese soldiers during the second World War. Since then, relationship between us developed stably with lasting efforts of both peoples. Actually, our two counties had set the whole world an example on how to establish friendly relationship between west and east despite cultural, religious, and ideological disparities. Then here comes a question. Since west and east are often spitting against each other, how can Canadians friends sit here comfortably, listening attentively to Chinese students? Is it possible for west and east to achieve friendship regardleof our disparities?
Actually, true friendship is built on our kindnetowards other peoples, which I call benevolence, the common ground of human society. It lets us be kind to others, which leads to mutual trust. Though we have different beliefs, we have a common one that we should treat others with this kindness. It is this kindnethat cradled our tolerance towards other cultures. Buddhism, for instance, was firstly introduced into China in late Han dynasty. Later, inter-waved with Chinese Taoism and Confusionism, then, evolved into Zen widely accepted in East Asia. Contrarily, Imperialism was always under resistance of people around the world due to its in short of kindness. The reason we believe Dr. Henry Bethune a true friend of us is that he was so kind to Chinese people. So are other Canadian friends. Despite many barriers in our pursuit of friendship, we’re still exerting our undying efforts based on this kindness.
Ladies and gentlemen, many Nobel Prize winners have called on the whole world to go back to learn from an ancient Chinese philosopher Confucious who advocates our benevolence towards others. I believe with the furthering mutual understanding between west and east, can we realize our dream of living a harmonious world. Thanks for your kind presence here, and thank you for listening.

Olympic Games: Our Common Language
Honorable judges, ladies and gentlemen:
The topic I’d like to present here today is: Olympic Games: Our Common Language.
The arrival of 2008 has brought us a golden opportunity to explore the meanings of Olympic Games. Hundreds of years ago, we were struggling at using different languages. We spoke Italian to women, French to men, Spanish to God, and German to horse! However now, we are dreaming of one common language which, as far as I see, will be inevitably Olympic Games.
But, why Olympic Games? Actually, the nature of a common language is to achieve our communication of souls based on similarities in different cultures while respect cultural diversities. Any articulate language including English will fail them-selves in the pursuit of being a common language, for they evolved from different cultures. On the contrary, Olympic Games was based our common belief, pursuing self-transcendence. An articulate language can bridge our communication through speaking while Olympic Games, feeling. While speaking helps us communicate mostly at informational or emotional level, Olympic Games helps us communicate mostly between our souls. Through athletes’ performance can we feel their spirits regardleof their races, colors, back rounds, etc. When Luz Long, a German athlete helped his rival Jesse Owens with his movement at starting line in long jump competition under Hilter’s watch, we are moved by the soul of Luz Long though there are no words between us. Then we understand better what broad mind is. When Canadian figure skating pair won the competition in 2002 Olympic Games, we touched the true beauty of motion. You see, Olympic Games paved a way for us into the very communication of souls.
Ladies and gentlemen, one world, one dream, a dream of a harmonious world. Since harmony is premised on understanding, it is very significant for us to seek for a common language. That is undoubtedly, Olympic Games. If my speech is not good enough to interpret its role as a common language, you can participate in Beijing Olympic Games. Welcome there. Thank you very much for listening.
